Open letter to the doctors and dentists of Padua and its province

This autumn 2024, there will be elections in all the provinces of Italy for the renewal of the Board of Directors of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists.

Many of us do not know what the Order of Physicians is and what role and potential it may have: many rarely or never go to vote, delegating the task of representing us to third parties in the belief that they have the appropriate skills to do so.

In recent years, however, the protection of Ethics, Deontology, and Professionalism has been waning and, at the same time, we are witnessing a cancellation of Italian healthcare, which used to be a flagship of our country.

Opportunities for confrontation between colleagues have decreased, mutual respect has been lacking, and care has been taken to avoid disparities. 

They want us to be reduced to mere executors of central power, but we must not forget the role attributed to us, which is to promote and ensure the independence, autonomy and responsibility of the profession and professional practice, technical and professional quality, the valorisation of the social function, the safeguarding of human rights and ethical principles of professional practice. It is all indicated in the Code of Ethicsto ensure the protection of individual and collective health.

A group of doctors from various backgrounds (GPs, hospitals, freelancers) came together almost spontaneously in the conviction that the time had come to regaining our Rights and Uniqueness. 

Recent events suggest that it is no longer the case to delegate! In order to protect the independence and autonomy of our profession, to enforce Ethics with the Code of Ethics, in coordination with many Orders in Italy, in Padua, we have therefore created a project called "Medical Art ". 

More and more often we hear about 'protocols' and 'guidelines', portrayed as the Doctor's salvation; we dread them (if used by others than Doctors) as a double danger: a cage dividing us from the Patient and a kind of Trojan Horse to dislodge us from the peculiarity of our art and critical conscience.
Indeed, the so-called Artificial 'Intelligence', which is advancing by leaps and bounds and which, in the name of this rampant scientism, is destined to replace our profession, is better at applying protocols than any human being, but also at removing that centuries-old doctor-patient relationship that is the basis of the Ars Medica.

Now, dear Colleague, you have an opportunity: you can choose freedom and professional responsibilityby coming to vote and voting for the 'Arte Medica' list, or, alternatively, you can choose pseudo-politics and pseudo-syndicalism, by not voting or reconfirming the nomenklatura... the choice is yours...
